For over ten years, as owner of Nutrition Therapy Memphis, Alaina has demonstrated her commitment to providing excellent care for men, women, and children through education, testing services, and personal support through the difficult changes that often challenge her clients.
Alaina’s passion for nutrition began at a young age while playing high school sports. Her mother had told her that, like a car without gasoline, her body could not run without nutrition to fuel her. That simple advice sparked an enduring pursuit of understanding how to fuel the body well. After completing her undergraduate degree in dietetics at the University of Memphis, she remained at the university to attend the dietitian training/internship program earning a master’s degree in nutrition.
In addition to being a master’s level licensed and registered dietitian/nutritionist, Alaina became a Board Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition while working at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center. She discovered her gift and passion for pediatric nutrition and gained extensive and varied experience as an integral member of the Pediatric Surgery and Gastrointestinal (GI)Team.
While at Le Bonheur, Alaina met and married Tyler Ward who encouraged her to take her expertise to Memphis at large. Becoming a new mother was the impetus she needed to take control of her career! She began consulting for Memphis area OB/GYN clinics, which further honed her knowledge, expertise, and passion in prenatal nutrition care, lactation, and women’s health. This set the stage for her to understand how nutrition inadequacies can negatively impact our risk for chronic disease at any age for both men and women. Her practice quickly expanded as she began using a more functional approach to health, relying on objective measures to test for insufficiencies and imbalances in the body. The testing services she adopted have greatly expanded her ability to identify and treat nutritional deficiencies and challenges, getting at the root causes of common diagnoses.
Alaina’s clients have discovered that they can trust and rely upon her extensive knowledge and common sense, real world best practices using evidence-based strategies to personalize and begin the healing process. Each person who walks in Nutrition Therapy Memphis benefits from her nearly twenty years of experience in optimizing fuel for the body. It really is that simple, like a car without fuel, the body cannot run without the right nutrition, and Alaina is dedicated to ensuring all her clients become their own specialists in fueling their engines to run and to run well.
